Are you adventurous? You want to spend your vacation a bit differently: active, moving, far away. One option is to rent a camper van. Before you decide to rent a camper van, listed below are some tips of how to do it.
- Check the price and obligatory surcharges. Check the basic rental price and what additional costs you can expect.
- Accessories. Before starting and to avoid unpleasant surprises on the journey check which accessories are provided for. Check if the camper van has: cables for connecting to the mains, water hose, dish, cutlery, folding table and chairs. Check all.
- Check the vehicle documents. They are: the vehicle traffic license, the insurance policy (camper vans must have comprehensive insurance and be insured under the conditions specified for rented vehicles), specifications in the rental agreement …
- Check for any existing damages to the camper van and note them.
- Check the vehicle is in an impeccable condition. The vehicle must be in a flawless condition at the time of the pick up (the cost of preparing the camper van). Also check the tire pressure, the fluid levels in the engine compartment and the mandatory equipment; plus the amount of fuel in the tank and the gas in the cylinders. Write the conclusions on the contract so that there will be no inconvenience when returning the vehicle.
- Learn how to handle a camper van. Before you go on a journey, your agent should explain in detail how the appliances built in the living area are used (gas, water and electrical installations, cooker, refrigerator, the heater of interiors and water …). We also suggest testing your driving capabilities and the a usage test of all the appliances before renting your camper van and the start of your journey.
- Get to know your camper van – a camper van is bigger, longer and heavier than a standard vehicle. The ride is not the same as driving a car. Take into account the height (overpasses), the width (narrow roads), the length (parking) of the vehicle as well as the large side surfaces (the sensitivity to the side wind) and the weight.
- Overnight accommodation. We suggest overnights staying in camps or parking lots specially qualified for stops of camper vans. Make time for stopovers when planning a route. Help yourself with a list of campsites of the country you are traveling to.
